Key Responsibilities
- Successfully complete a demanding Firefighter Recruit training program covering fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical care.
- Actively participate in physical fitness training and maintain peak physical condition required for firefighting duties.
- Learn and apply standard operating procedures (SOPs) for fire ground operations, hazardous materials incidents, and technical rescues.
- Operate and maintain firefighting apparatus, tools, and equipment safely and effectively.
- Provide basic life support and pre-hospital care as trained First Responders/Emergency Medical Responders.
- Engage in community outreach and fire prevention activities as required.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, departmental policies, and ethical guidelines.
- Demonstrate strong teamwork and communication skills within a diverse and high-pressure environment.
- Continuously learn and adapt to new techniques, technologies, and emergency response protocols.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class G Driver's License (or provincial equivalent) with a good driving record
- Current First Aid and CPR-C certification
- Excellent physical fitness and ability to pass a comprehensive physical assessment
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities under pressure
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Demonstrated commitment to public service and safety
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Fire Services, Paramedicine, or a related field
- Pre-service Firefighter Education & Training program certification (e.g., NFPA 1001 Level I & II)
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) or Primary Care Paramedic (PCP) certification
- Experience in trades, mechanical work, or other physically demanding professions
- Fluency in a second language relevant to Toronto's diverse population
- Volunteer experience in community service or emergency response
