Job Description

As a Seasonal Fishing Guide with Hiring.zycto, based in the vibrant Malton, Mississauga area, you will be the cornerstone of our clients’ outdoor adventures. This role is perfect for an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and safety-conscious individual who possesses a deep passion for fishing and the natural beauty of Southern Ontario’s waterways, including the Credit River, local ponds, and Lake Ontario tributaries. You will be responsible for leading individuals and small groups on guided fishing excursions, providing expert instruction, sharing local insights, and ensuring a safe, enjoyable, and memorable experience for every client.

Your day will involve more than just fishing; it’s about creating an educational and thrilling journey. You’ll teach various fishing techniques, from fly fishing to spin casting, identifying local species such as trout, salmon, bass, and pike. Beyond the thrill of the catch, you will educate clients on conservation practices, ethical angling, and the importance of respecting our natural resources. You’ll also be instrumental in preparing and maintaining all necessary equipment, ensuring it is in pristine condition and ready for each outing. This includes boats, tackle, safety gear, and bait.

Exceptional customer service is paramount. You will engage with clients of all skill levels, from novices to experienced anglers, tailoring the experience to their needs and preferences. Your ability to communicate clearly, patiently, and with infectious enthusiasm will be key to building rapport and ensuring client satisfaction. Problem-solving skills will be essential for adapting to changing weather conditions, water levels, and fishing activity, always prioritizing client safety and enjoyment.

You will operate primarily in and around the Malton and broader Mississauga region, occasionally venturing further into designated fishing zones within Ontario as required. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead guided fishing trips for individuals and small groups in designated Malton/Mississauga and surrounding Ontario waterways.
  • Provide expert instruction on various fishing techniques (e.g., fly fishing, spin casting), equipment use, and local species identification.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all clients throughout the excursion, adhering strictly to all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Prepare, maintain, and inspect all fishing equipment, boats, and safety gear before and after each trip.
  • Educate clients on local fishing regulations, conservation practices, and ethical angling techniques (e.g., catch and release).
  • Share in-depth knowledge of local waterways, fish behavior, and optimal fishing spots based on seasonal changes and conditions.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, fostering a positive, engaging, and memorable experience for all clients.
  • Adapt trips and strategies based on weather conditions, client skill levels, and fishing success.
  • Handle client inquiries and provide information about local flora, fauna, and points of interest.
  • Maintain accurate records of trips, catches, and equipment inventory.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in various freshwater fishing techniques (e.g., fly fishing, spin casting).
  • Extensive knowledge of local fish species, their habitats, and seasonal patterns in Southern Ontario, particularly Malton/Mississauga area.
  • Strong understanding of fishing regulations, conservation practices, and ethical angling.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to teach and explain complex concepts clearly and patiently to diverse audiences.
  • Proficiency in boat handling, navigation, and basic marine safety (if applicable).
  • Valid Ontario Pleasure Craft Operator Card (if applicable for motorized boats).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in dynamic outdoor environments.
  • Physical fitness and endurance to work long hours outdoors in varying weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ontario Fishing Guide license or relevant certifications.
  • Previous professional guiding experience in Ontario.
  • Knowledge of fly-tying or lure making.
  • Bilingualism (e.g., English and French or other relevant languages).
  • Basic mechanical knowledge for minor equipment repairs.
  • Experience with outdoor photography to capture client memories.
