Key Responsibilities
- Monitor reactor and turbine systems from the control room to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Operate and adjust controls to regulate power output, temperature, and pressure, ensuring safe plant operation.
- Conduct routine inspections of plant equipment and systems, identifying potential issues or deviations.
- Respond promptly to alarms and emergency conditions, initiating corrective actions according to established procedures.
- Perform preventative maintenance and minor repairs on equipment as required.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, records, and reports, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, regulatory requirements, and operational protocols.
- Participate actively in training programs and drills to enhance operational readiness and emergency response capabilities.
- Communicate effectively and precisely with shift supervisors, engineers, and other team members, especially during shift changes and critical operations.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in a power generation facility or heavy industrial operations environment.
- Strong theoretical and practical understanding of nuclear power plant systems and principles.
- Ability to read and interpret complex schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to maintain high levels of focus for extended periods.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly under high-pressure situations.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
- Physical ability to perform duties, including climbing stairs, working in confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Proficiency with computer-based control systems and data acquisition software.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a licensed or certified Nuclear Plant Operator (e.g., in a CANDU facility).
- Relevant degree or diploma in electrical, mechanical, nuclear engineering, or power generation technology.
- Experience with CANDU reactor technology specific to Canadian operations.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations pertaining to nuclear facilities and waste management.
