Key Responsibilities
- Assist licensed Pathology Assistants and Pathologists with the gross examination and dissection of surgical specimens.
- Accurately accession, label, and document all incoming surgical pathology specimens.
- Prepare specimens for microscopic examination, including embedding and sectioning, under direct supervision.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment, adhering strictly to all health and safety protocols.
- Perform routine laboratory tasks such as equipment maintenance, supply inventory, and quality control procedures.
- Participate in departmental meetings and continuous education initiatives to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Document all procedures and observations meticulously in accordance with established laboratory standards.
- Handle biohazardous materials safely and dispose of waste according to regulatory guidelines.
- Adhere to patient confidentiality and privacy regulations at all times.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Enrollment in or completion of a post-secondary program in biological sciences, medical laboratory technology, or a related field.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to follow complex instructions accurately and meticulously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Physical dexterity and ability to stand for extended periods, lift moderate weights, and handle biological specimens.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality in a laboratory setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior volunteer or work experience in a laboratory, healthcare, or scientific research setting.
