Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient TV Broadcast Technician to join our dynamic team in Centretown, Ottawa. This crucial full-time role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide array of broadcast equipment, ensuring the seamless operation of our television programming and transmissions. You will be instrumental in diagnosing and resolving technical issues, optimizing system performance, and supporting live broadcasts and recorded productions. If you possess a keen eye for detail, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a deep understanding of broadcast signal paths and equipment, you are the ideal candidate to help us maintain our high standards of broadcast quality and reliability. Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, maintain, and repair broadcast equipment, including cameras, switchers, audio consoles, routing systems, transmission gear, and monitoring devices.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and calibration of systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance with industry standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues quickly and efficiently to minimize downtime during live broadcasts and critical operations.
  • Monitor broadcast signals for quality control, identifying and rectifying any anomalies in video, audio, or RF signals.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment inventory, maintenance logs, and repair histories.
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and IT teams to support various broadcast projects and operational requirements.
  • Provide technical support for on-air operations, live events, and studio productions.
  • Respond to emergency technical breakdowns and implement solutions under pressure.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Broadcast Technician or similar role (minimum 4 years).
  • Strong understanding of broadcast signal flow (SDI, IP video, NDI, RF, fiber optics).
  • Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing broadcast audio, video, and control systems.
  • Familiarity with various broadcast equipment manufacturers and their technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical schematics and manuals.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College diploma or degree in Broadcast Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience with specific broadcast automation systems (e.g., Ross, Grass Valley, Sony).
  • Familiarity with IP-based broadcast workflows and networked media systems.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations pertinent to broadcast environments.
  • Experience with satellite or terrestrial transmission systems.
