Key Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise all drilling operations on site, ensuring alignment with project goals and operational plans.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, company policies, and all applicable environmental regulations.
  • Manage and coordinate drilling crews, third-party contractors, and various service providers.
  • Monitor drilling progress, wellbore conditions, and equipment performance, implementing adjustments as necessary.
  • Implement drilling programs and adjust based on real-time geological data and operational conditions.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings, perform incident investigations, and execute comprehensive risk assessments.
  • Prepare daily drilling reports, cost reports, and maintain accurate and detailed operational records.
  • Optimize drilling efficiency, minimize downtime, and manage operational budgets effectively.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex operational issues, including equipment malfunctions and downhole problems.
  • Ensure proper maintenance, inspection, and certification of all drilling equipment and tools.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in drilling operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Proven leadership and exceptional team management abilities.
  • Excellent understanding of drilling principles, techniques, and equipment (rotary, directional, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of HSE regulations and best practices specific to the oil and gas industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex operational issues efficiently and effectively.
  • Proficiency in drilling software, data analysis, and operational reporting tools.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Valid safety certifications (e.g., H2S Alive, First Aid, Well Control Level 4/5).
  • Strong decision-making skills, particularly under pressure and in dynamic environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education (Diploma or Degree) in Petroleum Engineering, Drilling Technology, or a related technical field.
  • Advanced Well Control certification (e.g., IADC or IWCF Supervisor Level).
  • Experience with specialized drilling technologies such as horizontal drilling, multilateral wells, or coiled tubing operations.
  • Project management experience or certifications (e.g., PMP).
  • Fluency in additional languages relevant to multicultural workforces.
