Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as an Entry-Level Developmental Service Worker in Courtenay, British Columbia. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide person-centered support to individuals with developmental disabilities, assisting with daily living activities such as personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and household management.
  • Facilitate and support clients' participation in community activities, social events, recreational programs, and educational pursuits to promote inclusion and skill development.
  • Assist clients in developing and implementing individualized support plans (ISPs) and personal goals, tracking progress and adapting strategies as needed.
  • Act as an advocate for clients' rights and choices, ensuring their voices are heard and respected in all aspects of their lives.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of client activities, observations, incidents, and progress in accordance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
  • Foster a safe, supportive, and respectful living and working environment for clients and colleagues.
  • Collaborate effectively with clients' families, guardians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and holistic care.
  • Respond to and manage crisis situations with calmness and professionalism, adhering to established protocols.
  • Support clients in developing life skills, managing finances, and accessing community resources.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, privacy policies, and ethical guidelines governing client care.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
  • Strong observational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Basic computer literacy for documentation and communication.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Reliability and strong time management skills.
  • Willingness to obtain First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Physical ability to assist clients with mobility and personal care tasks as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer or paid experience in a caregiving, support, or social services role.
  • Knowledge of various developmental disabilities and best practices in supporting individuals with diverse needs.
  • Valid Class 5 British Columbia Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • FoodSafe certification.
  • Conflict resolution and de-escalation training.
