Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a passionate and highly skilled Occupational Health Specialist to join our thriving team in Vancouver. This is a pivotal role where your expertise will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive occupational health programs designed to protect and promote the health and safety of our workforce. As an Occupational Health Specialist, you will be on the front lines, assessing workplace hazards, conducting health surveillance, managing disability cases, and providing expert advice on ergonomics, industrial hygiene, and overall wellness. You will collaborate closely with various departments, including HR, Safety, and Operations, to ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations, while fostering a proactive safety culture.

This position demands a keen eye for detail, exceptional communication skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement in occupational health practices. You will be responsible for investigating workplace incidents, analyzing trends, and recommending preventative measures. Furthermore, you will play a crucial role in employee education, leading workshops and training sessions on health and safety topics. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate occupational health policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments, including pre-employment, periodic, and return-to-work evaluations.
  • Manage and coordinate WCB/Workers' Compensation claims, including case management, liaison with healthcare providers, and facilitating safe and timely return-to-work plans.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on workplace health and safety issues, including ergonomics, industrial hygiene, communicable disease control, and hazard identification.
  • Lead and participate in workplace incident investigations, identifying root causes and recommending corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct health surveillance programs (e.g., audiometry, spirometry) as required by specific occupational hazards.
  • Deliver health and wellness education programs and training sessions to employees and management.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential health records in compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Collaborate with safety committees, HR, and management to foster a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all applicable legislation.
  • Stay current with legislative changes and advancements in occupational health and safety practices.

Required Skills

  • Registered Nurse (RN) or equivalent healthcare professional designation.
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health Nursing, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in occupational health within an industrial or corporate setting.
  • Thorough understanding of provincial (WorkSafeBC) and federal occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience in WCB/Workers' Compensation claim management and return-to-work coordination.
  • Proficiency in conducting health risk assessments and implementing control measures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise professional judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN-C).
  • Experience with disability management and accommodation processes.
  • Proficiency in a second language relevant to the Vancouver community.
  • Experience working with diverse employee populations and complex health cases.
