Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide one-on-one pastoral care, spiritual counseling, and emotional support to individuals and families.
  • Conduct regular visits to community members, offering presence, listening, and prayer as appropriate.
  • Plan and lead interfaith or specific religious services, meditations, and spiritual rituals as needed.
  • Offer support during times of crisis, grief, illness, and end-of-life, respecting individual beliefs and practices.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and other staff to integrate spiritual care into a holistic support plan.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of pastoral care interactions and interventions.
  • Serve as a resource for ethical and spiritual decision-making, offering guidance and facilitating discussions.
  • Participate in team meetings, contributing to the development and evaluation of pastoral care programs.
  • Advocate for the spiritual and religious needs of community members, ensuring respect for diverse faith traditions.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in pastoral care, spiritual counseling, or chaplaincy roles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
  • Profound empathy, compassion, and sensitivity to diverse human experiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proficiency in crisis intervention and grief support techniques.
  • Adherence to ethical guidelines and commitment to confidentiality.
  • Fluency in English (verbal and written).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Theology, Divinity, Pastoral Care, or a related field.
  • Certification in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
  • Experience working with diverse cultural and religious populations.
  • Knowledge of local community resources and support networks.
  • Ability to speak a second language relevant to the New Westminster community.
