Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one pastoral care, spiritual counseling, and emotional support to individuals and families.
- Conduct regular visits to community members, offering presence, listening, and prayer as appropriate.
- Plan and lead interfaith or specific religious services, meditations, and spiritual rituals as needed.
- Offer support during times of crisis, grief, illness, and end-of-life, respecting individual beliefs and practices.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, social workers, and other staff to integrate spiritual care into a holistic support plan.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of pastoral care interactions and interventions.
- Serve as a resource for ethical and spiritual decision-making, offering guidance and facilitating discussions.
- Participate in team meetings, contributing to the development and evaluation of pastoral care programs.
- Advocate for the spiritual and religious needs of community members, ensuring respect for diverse faith traditions.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience in pastoral care, spiritual counseling, or chaplaincy roles.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and active listening skills.
- Profound empathy, compassion, and sensitivity to diverse human experiences.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in crisis intervention and grief support techniques.
- Adherence to ethical guidelines and commitment to confidentiality.
- Fluency in English (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Theology, Divinity, Pastoral Care, or a related field.
- Certification in Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
- Experience working with diverse cultural and religious populations.
- Knowledge of local community resources and support networks.
- Ability to speak a second language relevant to the New Westminster community.
