Key Responsibilities
- Receive, label, and process patient samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) accurately and efficiently.
- Assist senior technicians with the setup and calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Perform basic laboratory tests following established standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of tests performed and results obtained.
- Adhere to strict quality control and assurance protocols to ensure reliable test outcomes.
- Clean and sterilize laboratory instruments and work areas.
- Assist with inventory management of reagents and supplies.
- Comply with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development activities.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues regarding sample status and test results.
Required Skills
- A Level or equivalent in a science-related subject (e.g., Biology, Chemistry)
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in all tasks.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A genuine interest in medical science and laboratory work.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant work experience (even voluntary) in a laboratory or healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of basic laboratory safety procedures.
- Familiarity with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths, and Science at grade C/4 or above.
