This full-time role is critical to our operations, involving the precise coordination and management of import and export shipments through various ports, primarily focusing on sea and potentially air freight.

As a Port Logistics Coordinator, you will be at the heart of our supply chain, responsible for orchestrating the movement of goods from origin to destination. This involves meticulous planning, constant communication with shipping lines, customs brokers, freight forwarders, and trucking companies, and proactive problem-solving to mitigate any potential disruptions. Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of import and export shipments, primarily via sea and air freight, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Liaise effectively with shipping lines, carriers, port authorities, customs brokers, and trucking companies to facilitate smooth cargo movement.
  • Prepare, review, and process all necessary documentation including bills of lading, customs declarations, shipping instructions, and delivery orders.
  • Monitor shipment status from departure to arrival, providing regular updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues such as delays, damages, or discrepancies, escalating complex problems as needed.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all international trade regulations, customs procedures, and company policies.
  • Negotiate rates with carriers and service providers to optimize shipping costs without compromising service quality.
  • Maintain accurate records of all logistics activities and prepare reports on shipment performance.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including sales and operations, to align logistics strategies with overall business objectives.
  • Utilize logistics software and systems to track shipments, manage inventory, and enhance operational efficiency.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in port logistics, freight forwarding, or a related supply chain role.
  • Strong understanding of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and Incoterms.
  • Proficiency in logistics software (e.g., TMS, WMS) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook).
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of Canadian customs regulations and port operations specific to Ontario.
  • Certification in supply chain management or logistics (e.g., SCMP, CITT).
  • Experience with hazardous materials handling and associated regulations.
  • Fluency in additional languages relevant to international trade.
