Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of import and export shipments, primarily via sea and air freight, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Liaise effectively with shipping lines, carriers, port authorities, customs brokers, and trucking companies to facilitate smooth cargo movement.
- Prepare, review, and process all necessary documentation including bills of lading, customs declarations, shipping instructions, and delivery orders.
- Monitor shipment status from departure to arrival, providing regular updates to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues such as delays, damages, or discrepancies, escalating complex problems as needed.
- Ensure strict compliance with all international trade regulations, customs procedures, and company policies.
- Negotiate rates with carriers and service providers to optimize shipping costs without compromising service quality.
- Maintain accurate records of all logistics activities and prepare reports on shipment performance.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including sales and operations, to align logistics strategies with overall business objectives.
- Utilize logistics software and systems to track shipments, manage inventory, and enhance operational efficiency.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in port logistics, freight forwarding, or a related supply chain role.
- Strong understanding of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and Incoterms.
- Proficiency in logistics software (e.g., TMS, WMS) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook).
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of building strong relationships with stakeholders.
- Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and data entry.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Knowledge of Canadian customs regulations and port operations specific to Ontario.
- Certification in supply chain management or logistics (e.g., SCMP, CITT).
- Experience with hazardous materials handling and associated regulations.
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to international trade.
