Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Airport Planner to join our growing team in Brampton, Ontario. This pivotal role requires a comprehensive understanding of airport operations, design principles, and regulatory frameworks. You will be instrumental in developing strategic plans that enhance capacity, improve operational efficiency, and ensure the sustainable growth of aviation facilities. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, you will conduct in-depth analyses of existing infrastructure, forecast future demands, and propose innovative solutions for airside, terminal, and landside development. This includes everything from runway and taxiway configurations to passenger processing areas and ground transportation systems, ensuring a seamless and efficient traveler experience.

Your expertise will be vital in creating detailed airport master plans, feasibility studies, and environmental assessments, all while rigorously adhering to national and international aviation standards such as those set by Transport Canada and ICAO. Engaging effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including airport authorities, airlines, regulatory bodies, local communities, and project managers, will be a cornerstone of your daily activities. You’ll be expected to translate complex technical information into clear, actionable insights, presenting your recommendations persuasively to diverse audiences, often at executive levels. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of airport master plans, strategic development plans, and associated studies.
  • Conduct capacity analyses for airside, terminal, and landside facilities, identifying bottlenecks and proposing solutions.
  • Prepare technical reports, feasibility studies, and environmental assessments in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, environmental specialists, and operational teams to integrate planning concepts.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including airport authorities, airlines, government agencies, and community groups.
  • Develop and present clear, concise recommendations to clients and internal teams.
  • Ensure all planning activities adhere to Transport Canada, ICAO, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Utilize planning and design software (e.g., AutoCAD, GIS) to visualize and analyze airport layouts.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable aviation initiatives and integrate new technologies into planning.
  • Monitor industry trends and best practices to inform planning strategies.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Aviation Management, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in airport planning or design.
  • Strong understanding of airport operations, planning principles, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Transport Canada, ICAO Annexes).
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD) and GIS applications (e.g., ArcGIS).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, including presentation capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license or eligibility.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Experience with aviation simulation or modeling software (e.g., CAST, SimMod, TAAM).
  • Familiarity with environmental assessment processes for airport development.
  • Experience in consulting or working with diverse airport clients.
