Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a motivated and hardworking Seasonal Prairie Grain Farmer to join our agricultural partner’s team in Flamborough, Hamilton, for the upcoming planting and harvesting seasons. This is a hands-on role perfect for individuals passionate about agriculture, eager to contribute to vital food production, and willing to embrace the demanding but rewarding nature of farm work. You will be instrumental in various aspects of grain farming operations, from preparing fields and planting seeds to monitoring crop health and finally harvesting and storing the grain. This position requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and a commitment to safe working practices. Experience with farm machinery and a basic understanding of crop cycles are highly valued. Be prepared for early mornings, long days, and working outdoors in various weather conditions, all contributing to the successful yield of Canada’s essential grain crops. Your dedication will directly impact the success of our seasonal operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain farm machinery and equipment, including tractors, planters, cultivators, sprayers, and combines, safely and efficiently.
  • Assist with field preparation activities such as plowing, discing, and harrowing.
  • Perform planting tasks, ensuring proper seed depth and spacing.
  • Monitor crop growth, identify pests, weeds, and diseases, and assist with their control.
  • Carry out irrigation tasks as required.
  • Participate in the harvesting of various grain crops, including wheat, corn, and soybeans.
  • Assist with grain handling, drying, and storage procedures.
  • Perform general farm duties including minor repairs, maintenance of farm buildings, and tidying work areas.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and agricultural best practices.
  • Record operational data such as planting dates, chemical applications, and harvest yields.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience operating and maintaining farm machinery.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for minor equipment adjustments and maintenance.
  • Strong work ethic and reliability.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
  • Valid G driver’s license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience specifically with grain crops (wheat, corn, soybeans).
  • Knowledge of agricultural chemicals and safe handling procedures (e.g., sprayer calibration).
  • Experience with GPS systems used in modern farming equipment.
  • Certification in heavy equipment operation or agricultural machinery.
  • Post-secondary education in agriculture or a related field.
