Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Manager – Sustainability to lead our environmental programs and sustainability initiatives from our Pelmo Park, Toronto office. This critical role will be instrumental in shaping our company’s environmental footprint, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations, and advancing our commitment to corporate social responsibility. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive environmental management systems that align with our strategic objectives and foster a culture of environmental stewardship across all operations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of environmental legislation, sustainability frameworks, and best practices in waste reduction, energy efficiency, water conservation, and emissions control. You will serve as a key advisor to senior leadership, guiding the integration of sustainable practices into business processes and product lifecycles. This position requires a proactive individual with strong leadership qualities, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of driving successful environmental and sustainability projects. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain environmental management systems (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001 standards and other relevant certifications.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations, permits, and corporate policies.
  • Lead the development and execution of sustainability strategies, including setting targets for waste reduction, energy consumption, water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions.
  • Conduct environmental impact assessments, risk analyses, and internal audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure continuous compliance.
  • Manage environmental reporting obligations to regulatory bodies and internal stakeholders, including preparing annual sustainability reports.
  • Champion environmental awareness and training programs for employees at all levels.
  • Evaluate and recommend new technologies, processes, and practices to enhance environmental performance and resource efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., operations, engineering, supply chain) to integrate sustainability principles into business decisions and projects.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in environmental management or sustainability roles.
  • Proven knowledge of Canadian federal and Ontario provincial environmental legislation and regulations (e.g., EPA, O. Reg. 153/04).
  • Experience with environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001) implementation and auditing.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives concurrently.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or Certified Environmental Professional (CEP).
  • Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability Management, or a related field.
  • Experience with carbon footprinting, life cycle assessments (LCA), or circular economy principles.
  • Familiarity with environmental data management software and reporting platforms.
