You will work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and field teams to identify potential hazards, implement preventative measures, and conduct regular site inspections. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive health and safety programs tailored for construction sites.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Lead and facilitate safety training sessions for all site personnel, including new hires, on topics such as hazard recognition, equipment operation, and emergency procedures.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed safety documentation, including incident reports, safety meeting minutes, and inspection records.
  • Collaborate with project managers and site supervisors to integrate safety considerations into all stages of project planning and execution.
  • Ensure all necessary safety equipment is available, properly maintained, and used correctly by personnel.
  • Stay current with provincial (Ontario) and federal health and safety legislation and best practices in the construction industry.
  • Promote a positive safety culture through effective communication, mentorship, and proactive engagement with all team members.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a safety-related role, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Strong understanding of occupational health and safety regulations (OHSA and regulations for construction projects in Ontario).
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to conduct thorough incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites on Centre Island.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Relevant safety certifications such as CRSP, NCSO, or other recognized professional designations.
  • Experience with safety management software and systems.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience working on island or unique geographical location construction projects.
