Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct support with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal care, hygiene, meal preparation, and medication reminders.
- Assist clients with community participation, including attending appointments, recreational activities, and social outings.
- Implement personalized support plans, documenting progress, observing changes in client condition, and reporting to relevant supervisors.
- Promote client independence, choice, and dignity in all aspects of support, respecting individual preferences and cultural backgrounds.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized living environment for clients, adhering to health and safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, their families, team members, and other healthcare professionals.
- Adhere strictly to professional standards, ethical guidelines, organizational policies, and relevant legislation.
Required Skills
- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Disability Support Worker or similar caregiving role.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and Police Reference Check upon hiring.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, reliability, and respect for individuals with diverse needs and backgrounds.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel within the Christie Pits and surrounding Toronto areas for client support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Diploma in Community Support Worker (CSW), Personal Support Worker (PSW), Developmental Services Worker (DSW), or a related field.
- Experience working with individuals with specific disabilities (e.g., autism spectrum disorder, physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities).
- Fluency in a second language relevant to Toronto's diverse community.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) training.
