Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a dedicated and thorough School Custodian to join our team, serving a vibrant educational institution in the Gibson House area of Toronto. This full-time position is crucial for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment conducive to learning and development for students and staff alike. As a School Custodian, you are more than just a cleaner; you are a vital part of the school community, ensuring the physical integrity and hygienic standards of the premises. You will be responsible for a wide range of custodial duties, from routine cleaning and sanitization to minor repairs and setting up for school events. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, and cleaning windows and glass surfaces.
  • Sanitize and disinfect high-touch surfaces, restrooms, classrooms, and common areas to maintain a healthy environment.
  • Empty waste bins, transport waste to disposal areas, and manage recycling programs.
  • Operate and maintain various cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, and pressure washers.
  • Conduct minor repairs and maintenance tasks (e.g., changing light bulbs, tightening loose fixtures, unclogging drains).
  • Monitor building security, including locking and unlocking doors and windows, and reporting suspicious activities.
  • Set up and take down equipment for school events, meetings, and activities.
  • Restock supplies in restrooms, classrooms, and other designated areas.
  • Address immediate clean-up needs and emergencies (e.g., spills, leaks) promptly and efficiently.
  • Ensure all cleaning procedures adhere to health and safety regulations and school policies.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, reporting needs to management.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a custodial, janitorial, or maintenance role, preferably in a school or institutional setting.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, supplies, and equipment, and their safe and proper use.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks consistently, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing, bending, and reaching.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • WHMIS certification.
  • Previous experience working in an educational facility.
  • Basic knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems for minor troubleshooting.
