Job Description
Hiring.zycto seeks a dedicated Certified Fire Inspector for our Toronto team. This pivotal role involves upholding high fire safety standards across diverse commercial, residential, and institutional properties. You will protect lives and property through meticulous inspections, code enforcement, and community engagement. Key duties include evaluating building plans, conducting on-site inspections, investigating incidents, and providing expert advice. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct fire safety inspections, ensuring compliance with Ontario Building/Fire Codes and NFPA standards.
- Review fire protection plans for code adherence.
- Investigate fire incidents, determine origin/cause, and prepare comprehensive reports.
- Issue orders, notices of violation, and ensure corrective actions; prepare prosecution reports as needed.
- Educate property owners and the public on fire safety practices and regulations.
- Maintain accurate inspection and investigation records.
- Collaborate with emergency services and other municipal departments.
- Stay updated on fire safety codes, standards, and best practices through continuous professional development.
Required Skills
- Valid Fire Inspector Certification (e.g., NFPA Fire Inspector I & II, or equivalent provincial certification).
- Expert knowledge of Ontario Building Code, Ontario Fire Code, and relevant NFPA standards.
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a Fire Inspector or in a related fire prevention role.
- Proven ability to interpret and apply complex codes and regulations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing, public education, and enforcement actions.
- Strong analytical and detail-oriented problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in using inspection software and standard office applications.
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in Fire Science, Building Technology, or a related field.
- Additional certifications such as Fire Investigator, Plans Examiner, or Public Fire Educator.
- Experience with advanced fire suppression systems (e.g., sprinkler systems, special hazard systems).
- Bilingualism (English and French) is an asset.
