Job Description

Hiring.zycto is searching for an experienced and dedicated Labor Relations Specialist to join our human resources team in Toronto. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in managing and enhancing our relationships with unionized employees and their representatives. This includes playing a key role in collective bargaining, contract administration, grievance resolution, and fostering a collaborative labor environment. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of labor legislation, collective agreements, and best practices in industrial relations, with a proven track record of successful negotiation and conflict resolution.

As a Labor Relations Specialist, you will be the primary point of contact for interpreting collective agreement provisions, advising management on labor relations strategies, and ensuring compliance with all relevant labor laws and internal policies. You will work closely with various departments to ensure consistency in the application of policies and procedures across all unionized work groups. This role demands a proactive individual who can anticipate potential labor disputes, develop preventative strategies, and skillfully mediate conflicts to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in collective bargaining negotiations, including preparing proposals, counter-proposals, and costing analyses.
  • Administer and interpret collective agreements, providing expert advice to management and employees on terms and conditions.
  • Manage the grievance process from initial filing to arbitration, including investigation, mediation, and representation.
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of labor relations issues, trends, and legislative changes.
  • Develop and deliver training sessions for management on labor relations best practices, contract interpretation, and dispute resolution.
  • Advise on disciplinary actions, ensuring adherence to collective agreement provisions and due process.
  • Foster and maintain positive working relationships with union representatives and employees.
  • Prepare reports, briefs, and recommendations on labor relations matters to senior management.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and provincial labor legislation, including the Ontario Labour Relations Act.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a dedicated Labor Relations role within a unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in collective bargaining and contract negotiation.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian labor law, particularly the Ontario Labour Relations Act.
  • Proven ability to manage grievances and participate in arbitration processes.
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certification or professional designation in Human Resources (e.g., CHRP, CHRL).
  • Experience in the public sector or a large, complex organization.
  • Master's degree in Industrial Relations or Law.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
