Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and experienced Epidemiologist to join our dynamic public health team located in the vibrant High Park-Swansea area of Toronto. This pivotal role involves contributing to the rigorous surveillance, meticulous investigation, and comprehensive analysis of health data to inform critical public health policies and interventions across our jurisdiction. As an Epidemiologist, you will play a crucial part in protecting and promoting the health of our community by proactively identifying health trends, accurately assessing risks, and developing evidence-based strategies to mitigate disease burden.
Working within a collaborative governmental framework, you will engage with a diverse array of stakeholders including healthcare professionals, policy makers, community organizations, and academic partners. Your day-to-day responsibilities will encompass active surveillance for a broad spectrum of health concerns, including communicable diseases, non-communicable diseases, and environmental health hazards. You will lead and participate in complex disease outbreak investigations, applying sound epidemiological principles to determine sources, modes of transmission, and effective control measures that safeguard public health. Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and manage epidemiological studies, surveys, and comprehensive surveillance systems.
- Lead and conduct thorough investigations of disease outbreaks and clusters, identifying risk factors and recommending evidence-based control measures.
- Perform advanced statistical analysis of health data using industry-standard software packages (e.g., SAS, R, Stata).
- Prepare clear, concise, and comprehensive epidemiological reports, scientific publications, and presentations for diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide expert epidemiological advice and consultation to public health officials, policy makers, and community partners.
- Monitor and rigorously evaluate the effectiveness of public health interventions and programs.
- Develop, maintain, and ensure the quality of robust public health databases and data collection protocols.
- Contribute significantly to the development of public health policy and guidelines based on sound epidemiological evidence.
- Stay current with emerging public health threats, advanced epidemiological methods, and best practices through continuous learning and professional development.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, Biostatistics, or a closely related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive professional experience in epidemiology, with a preference for experience gained within a government or public health agency setting.
- Demonstrated proficiency in statistical software packages (e.g., SAS, R, Stata) for complex data analysis and management.
- Proven experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies, disease surveillance, and outbreak investigations.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex scientific data into actionable insights for diverse audiences.
- Ability to work effectively both independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
