Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Full-Time Bridge Inspector to join our dynamic team in Riverside, Toronto. This pivotal role involves conducting thorough inspections of various bridge structures, assessing their condition, identifying potential defects, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations. You will play a critical role in maintaining the structural integrity and longevity of our vital transportation infrastructure. We are looking for an individual with a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of structural engineering principles, and a commitment to upholding the highest safety protocols. As a Bridge Inspector, you will be instrumental in preventing structural failures, ensuring public safety, and contributing to the overall resilience of Ontario’s transportation network. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive visual and hands-on inspections of various bridge types, including steel, concrete, timber, and specialty structures.
  • Document findings meticulously, including photographic evidence, detailed written reports, and defect classifications.
  • Utilize specialized inspection equipment and techniques to assess structural components, material degradation, and potential risks.
  • Evaluate structural conditions and identify potential deficiencies, deterioration, or damage in accordance with relevant codes and standards (e.g., OHBDC).
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, outlining recommendations for maintenance, repair, or further investigation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and maintenance teams to discuss findings and propose effective solutions.
  • Ensure all inspection activities adhere strictly to safety regulations, company policies, and environmental guidelines.
  • Participate in bridge load rating analyses and provide input on rehabilitation strategies as required.
  • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in bridge inspection techniques, technologies, and industry best practices.
  • Conduct emergency inspections as needed in response to incidents or extreme weather events.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years (48 months) of direct experience in bridge inspection or structural assessment.
  • Proficiency with relevant inspection codes, standards, and guidelines (e.g., OHBDC Bridge Design Code).
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and assess various types of structural defects and deterioration mechanisms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report generation and stakeholder interaction.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team in challenging environments.
  • Valid Ontario Class G driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to perform field inspections, including working at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario.
  • Specialized certifications in rope access, confined space entry, or diving inspections.
  • Experience with non-destructive testing (NDT) methods for structural assessment.
  • Familiarity with bridge management systems and software.
  • Post-graduate degree in Structural Engineering.
