Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth interviews with Employment Insurance claimants to gather necessary information and clarify their circumstances and eligibility.
  • Analyze complex claim applications against federal Employment Insurance legislation, policies, and guidelines to determine eligibility and entitlement accurately.
  • Provide clear, concise, and accurate explanations of benefit entitlements, claimant obligations, and the appeals process to individuals.
  • Investigate discrepancies, gather additional evidence, and resolve issues related to claims, ensuring fairness, compliance, and adherence to regulations.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date records of all claimant interactions and case progression within established electronic systems.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams and external agencies as required to facilitate comprehensive service delivery and claimant support.
  • Stay current with changes to Employment Insurance legislation, regulations, and departmental procedures through ongoing training and self-study.
  • Manage a high volume of cases efficiently while prioritizing workload, adhering to strict service standards and critical deadlines.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to inquiries from claimants, employers, and authorized representatives regarding various EI programs.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation for decision-making, quality assurance, and review processes.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English for clear and empathetic client interactions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a meticulous focus on attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply complex legislation, policies, and guidelines accurately.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating an empathetic, professional, and patient approach to client service.
  • Proficiency in using case management software and standard office applications (e.g., MS Office Suite, databases).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively as part of a dedicated team.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and handle a high volume workload under pressure.
  • High level of integrity, ethical conduct, and ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
  • Capacity to adapt quickly to new procedures and technological changes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Sciences, Public Administration, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in a government service environment, particularly in social programs, benefits administration, or claims processing.
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Employment Insurance Act and Regulations is a significant asset.
  • Experience in conflict resolution, de-escalation techniques, or dealing with challenging client situations.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered a strong asset.
