Job Description

Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Environmental Technician to join our growing field team in Toronto. This pivotal full-time role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to a wide array of environmental projects, ensuring compliance, assessing risks, and supporting remediation efforts across various sites. As an Environmental Technician, you will be the eyes and ears on the ground, responsible for critical data collection, sample acquisition, and site assessments that form the backbone of our environmental reports and recommendations. You will work independently and as part of a collaborative team, utilizing your technical skills and problem-solving abilities in diverse outdoor settings, often requiring travel to various project locations within the Greater Toronto Area and occasionally beyond. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct environmental field sampling (e.g., soil, groundwater, surface water, air) according to established protocols.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of field equipment, including GPS devices, water quality meters, and air monitoring equipment.
  • Perform detailed site inspections and assessments for environmental compliance and risk identification.
  • Accurately document field observations, data, measurements, and photographic evidence.
  • Prepare and calibrate field instruments to ensure data quality and reliability.
  • Strictly adhere to all health and safety protocols, company procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with the compilation of field data, basic data analysis, and preparation of technical reports.
  • Properly manage, package, and transport environmental samples to accredited laboratories.
  • Participate in spill response, emergency response, and remediation activities as required.
  • Liaise professionally with clients, contractors, property owners, and regulatory agencies on-site.
  • Conduct underground utility locates and mark-outs.

Required Skills

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in environmental field work or consulting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in environmental sampling techniques (soil, groundwater, air).
  • Strong understanding of occupational health and safety regulations (e.g., OHSA, O. Reg. 153/04).
  • Valid G-class driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs (23 kg) and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and client interaction.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for data management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional designation (e.g., P.Tech, CET, P.Geo) or actively working towards one.
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations in Ontario and Canada.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Experience with drilling supervision or oversight.
  • Training in elevated work platforms, confined space entry, or fall protection.
