Job Description
A Family Support Worker plays a pivotal role in strengthening families and promoting the healthy development of children across Toronto. This demanding yet profoundly rewarding position requires an individual with exceptional empathy, resilience, and a deep commitment to client-centered care. As a Family Support Worker with Hiring.zycto, you will be on the front lines, providing crucial guidance, resources, and emotional support to families navigating a range of challenges, from parenting difficulties and mental health concerns to socio-economic stressors and systemic barriers. You will work directly with families in their homes, at our community hub near Sheppard Subway, and within other community settings, building trusting relationships that foster open communication and positive change. This involves conducting comprehensive needs assessments, developing individualized support plans in collaboration with families, and diligently advocating for families’ rights and needs within various systems, including healthcare, education, housing, and social services. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of child development, family dynamics, attachment theory, and relevant legislation, coupled with practical experience in crisis intervention, conflict resolution, and case management. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive in-home and in-community assessments to identify family strengths and needs.
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized service plans in collaboration with families.
- Provide direct emotional support, guidance, and practical assistance to families facing various challenges.
- Connect families with appropriate internal and external community resources, including housing, food security, mental health, and educational programs.
- Advocate for families' rights and access to services within various systems.
- Facilitate workshops and group sessions on parenting skills, child development, and healthy family dynamics.
- Maintain accurate and timely client records and case notes in compliance with agency standards and privacy regulations.
- Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and supervision sessions.
- Implement crisis intervention strategies as needed, ensuring client safety and well-being.
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams and external partners.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care, Psychology, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in family support, social work, or community services.
- Proven ability to conduct needs assessments and develop individualized service plans.
- Strong understanding of child development, family dynamics, and parenting strategies.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), and active listening skills.
- Ability to build rapport and trust with diverse families from various cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated crisis intervention and de-escalation skills.
- Proficiency in case management and record-keeping.
- Valid G-class driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel within Toronto.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Social Work or a related field.
- Experience working with Indigenous families and communities, or other marginalized populations.
- Bilingualism in English and another language relevant to Toronto's diverse population (e.g., Cantonese, Mandarin, Farsi, Tagalog, Punjabi, Spanish).
- Knowledge of local Toronto community resources and support networks.
- Certification in First Aid and CPR.
- Training in trauma-informed care and harm reduction principles.
