Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests across various disciplines (e.g., Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Transfusion Medicine).
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment and automated analyzers.
- Conduct thorough quality control procedures to ensure test result accuracy and reliability.
- Analyze and interpret test results, identifying abnormal findings and critical values.
- Prepare, process, and store patient samples according to established protocols.
- Ensure accurate, timely, and confidential reporting of test results.
- Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety regulations, accreditation standards, and quality assurance protocols.
- Troubleshoot technical issues with instrumentation and resolve discrepancies in results.
- Participate actively in continuous quality improvement initiatives and laboratory accreditation processes.
- Maintain meticulous records, documentation, and logs of all laboratory activities.
- Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals regarding test results and laboratory procedures.
Required Skills
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
- Demonstrated proficiency in performing a wide range of laboratory tests across multiple disciplines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
- Excellent critical thinking skills for interpreting results and troubleshooting issues.
- Ability to work efficiently and independently, as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency in using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and other relevant software.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with colleagues and healthcare providers.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant safety regulations, quality control, and assurance protocols.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and ethical laboratory practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related scientific field.
