Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests across various disciplines (e.g., Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Transfusion Medicine).
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain sophisticated laboratory equipment and automated analyzers.
  • Conduct thorough quality control procedures to ensure test result accuracy and reliability.
  • Analyze and interpret test results, identifying abnormal findings and critical values.
  • Prepare, process, and store patient samples according to established protocols.
  • Ensure accurate, timely, and confidential reporting of test results.
  • Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety regulations, accreditation standards, and quality assurance protocols.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues with instrumentation and resolve discrepancies in results.
  • Participate actively in continuous quality improvement initiatives and laboratory accreditation processes.
  • Maintain meticulous records, documentation, and logs of all laboratory activities.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare professionals regarding test results and laboratory procedures.

Required Skills

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO).
  • Demonstrated proficiency in performing a wide range of laboratory tests across multiple disciplines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills for interpreting results and troubleshooting issues.
  • Ability to work efficiently and independently, as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and other relevant software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with colleagues and healthcare providers.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant safety regulations, quality control, and assurance protocols.
  • Commitment to patient confidentiality and ethical laboratory practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a related scientific field.
  • Experience with specific advanced diagnostic platforms or specialized testing methodologies.
  • Additional certifications or advanced training in specialized areas of laboratory medicine.
  • Previous experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume clinical diagnostic environment.
