Key Responsibilities
- Analyze meteorological data from various sources (satellite, radar, models) to prepare accurate and localized weather forecasts for the Toronto area and surrounding regions.
- Deliver clear, concise, and engaging live and pre-recorded weather presentations for broadcast television, radio, and digital platforms.
- Generate and interpret weather graphics, maps, and other visual aids to enhance presentations.
- Monitor severe weather conditions continuously, issue timely warnings and updates, and provide comprehensive coverage during critical events.
- Collaborate closely with news producers, reporters, and editors to integrate weather segments seamlessly into broader news programming.
- Develop and research weather-related stories, features, and educational content for various media outlets.
- Engage with the public through social media, community events, and Q&A sessions to build trust and provide meteorological insights.
- Stay abreast of the latest advancements in meteorological science, forecasting techniques, and media presentation technologies.
- Provide expert commentary and analysis on climate trends, environmental issues, and their local impact.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of weather forecasting models and presentation strategies.
Required Skills
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in meteorological forecasting software and tools
- Strong understanding of synoptic and mesoscale meteorology
- Ability to interpret complex scientific data quickly and accurately
- On-air presentation experience or strong public speaking ability
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines
- Demonstrated commitment to accuracy and journalistic integrity
- Proficiency with weather graphics generation systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, or a related field
