Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, including fundus photography, OCT scans, and visual field assessments, for patients of all ages.
- Accurately diagnose, treat, and manage a wide range of ocular conditions and refractive errors.
- Prescribe and dispense appropriate corrective lenses (spectacles and contact lenses) and provide expert advice on their usage and care.
- Provide clear, empathetic, and effective patient education regarding eye health, treatment options, and preventative measures.
- Maintain meticulous and confidential patient records in accordance with GOC guidelines and data protection regulations.
- Collaborate effectively with optical assistants, practice managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and training to stay abreast of the latest advancements in optometry.
- Adhere strictly to all professional, ethical, and clinical governance standards set by the General Optical Council (GOC).
Required Skills
- Full registration with the General Optical Council (GOC) and current professional indemnity insurance.
- BSc (Hons) in Optometry or equivalent qualification.
- Demonstrable post-qualification clinical experience in a fast-paced optometry practice.
- Exceptional diagnostic skills and a thorough understanding of ocular pathology.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues.
- Proficiency in using modern optometric equipment and electronic patient record systems.
- A patient-centred approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional specialist accreditations such as MECS (Minor Eye Condition Service) or glaucoma shared care.
- Experience with advanced diagnostic tools like Topography or Anterior Segment Photography.
- Previous experience mentoring or supervising pre-registration optometrists or junior staff.
- Post-graduate qualifications or specialist interest areas, e.g., contact lenses, low vision, dry eye management.
