Job Description
Hiring.zycto is actively seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Power Plant Operator to join our critical operations team in Outremont, Montreal. This is a vital full-time, shift-work position at the heart of our energy generation facilities, directly contributing to the continuous power supply of our communities. As a Power Plant Operator, you will be instrumental in the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of complex power generation equipment, ensuring grid stability and upholding the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance.
In this demanding yet rewarding role, you will be responsible for monitoring, operating, and maintaining various critical systems including turbines, generators, boilers, cooling systems, and auxiliary equipment, utilizing advanced Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and SCADA systems. Your daily tasks will involve performing routine checks, interpreting operational data, and making real-time adjustments to optimize plant performance. A crucial aspect of this position is the ability to respond swiftly and effectively to operational alarms, diagnose potential issues, and implement immediate corrective actions to prevent downtime and maintain continuous service.
This position requires a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of complex mechanical, electrical, and control systems, and the ability to make sound, critical decisions under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor power generation equipment including boilers, turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems via control room interfaces.
- Monitor plant conditions and parameters, detect deviations, and implement corrective actions in accordance with operational procedures.
- Perform routine inspections, tests, and maintenance activities on plant equipment.
- Respond promptly to alarms and emergencies, diagnose root causes, and execute appropriate shutdown or start-up procedures.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety regulations, environmental compliance standards, and company policies.
- Maintain accurate operational logs, records, and reports of plant performance, equipment status, and incidents.
- Collaborate effectively with maintenance, engineering, and other operational teams to optimize plant efficiency and reliability.
- Participate in training programs and continuous professional development to enhance operational skills and knowledge.
- Assist in the development and revision of operating procedures and safety protocols.
Required Skills
- Minimum 4 years of experience as a Power Plant Operator or in a closely related industrial operations role.
- Thorough understanding of power plant operations, including steam generation, turbine-generators, and auxiliary systems.
- Proficiency with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and SCADA systems.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make critical decisions under pressure.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety procedures and environmental regulations.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, shift-work environment (including nights, weekends, and holidays).
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for reporting and collaboration.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in power engineering, electrical engineering technology, or a related field.
- Valid provincial Power Engineer's Certificate (e.g., 4th or 3rd Class Operating Engineer in Quebec).
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- First aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with renewable energy generation technologies.
