Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute experimental plans for the synthesis, processing, and characterization of novel materials.
- Perform in-depth material characterization using techniques such as SEM, TEM, XRD, FTIR, Raman, DSC, TGA, and mechanical testing (tensile, compression, fatigue).
- Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and generate comprehensive reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and optimize new material formulations and processing methods to achieve desired performance specifications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing, product development) to integrate new materials into existing or new product designs.
- Conduct literature reviews and stay abreast of the latest advancements in materials science and related fields.
- Troubleshoot material-related issues in product development and manufacturing.
- Maintain meticulous laboratory records, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and quality standards.
- Mentor junior scientists and contribute to a collaborative and innovative team environment.
Required Skills
- PhD or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in materials research and development (post-academic for PhD, or equivalent industry experience for Master's).
- Strong theoretical and practical understanding of material properties, structure-property relationships, and degradation mechanisms.
- Proficiency in a wide range of material characterization techniques.
- Demonstrated experience with material synthesis or processing (e.g., polymer synthesis, inorganic materials processing, thin film deposition, additive manufacturing).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced R&D environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting complex technical information.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with computational materials science (e.g., FEM, DFT, MD simulations).
- Knowledge of specific material systems relevant to our industry (e.g., advanced ceramics, composites, biomaterials, semiconductors).
- Proven track record of innovation, including patents, publications, or successful product development.
- Experience with statistical analysis software (e.g., JMP, Minitab) and data visualization tools.
