Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical evaluations, gait analysis, and functional assessments, to determine appropriate prosthetic or orthotic interventions.
- Design, measure, cast, and meticulously fit custom prosthetic and orthotic devices according to prescriptions and patient needs, utilizing various materials and fabrication techniques.
- Perform adjustments, repairs, and modifications to existing devices to ensure optimal fit, comfort, and function for patients.
- Provide thorough patient education and counseling regarding device usage, care, maintenance, potential complications, and rehabilitation exercises.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to develop integrated treatment plans.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including assessment findings, device specifications, treatment progress, and follow-up care.
- Adhere to all professional, ethical, and safety standards, as well as regulatory requirements pertaining to Prosthetics and Orthotics practice.
Required Skills
- Certified Prosthetist Orthotist (CPO) or equivalent certification/licensure
- Comprehensive knowledge of human anatomy, biomechanics, and kinesiology
- Proficiency in impression taking, measurement techniques, and device fabrication
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning skills
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and patient counseling abilities
- Problem-solving aptitude with a keen eye for detail and precision
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Prosthetics and Orthotics or a related field
- Experience with advanced prosthetic and orthotic technologies, including microprocessors and CAD/CAM systems
- Specialized training or experience in specific areas such as pediatric orthotics or sports prosthetics
- Fluency in additional languages relevant to the local community
- Active membership in a professional association (e.g., Orthotics Prosthetics Canada)
