Key Responsibilities
- Operate track switches and derails to ensure safe and efficient train movements.
- Couple and uncouple rail cars, utilizing proper safety procedures and equipment.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trains and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with engineers, dispatchers, and other crew members via radio and hand signals.
- Strictly follow all railway operating rules, regulations, and safety protocols.
- Manage and verify documentation for train manifests, switching lists, and movements.
- Respond promptly and safely to emergency situations, implementing established procedures.
- Ensure proper securement of trains and equipment, including applying handbrakes.
- Work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Adhere to strict safety standards and promote a safety-first culture at all times.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class G driver's license (or provincial equivalent) with a clean driving record.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Strong commitment to safety and strict adherence to rules and regulations.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), climb, bend, walk on uneven terrain, and work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Availability to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Excellent situational awareness, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to successfully complete a comprehensive and demanding training program.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
