Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular patrols of transit vehicles, stations, and property to identify and mitigate security risks and ensure passenger safety.
  • Enforce all transit by-laws, regulations, and relevant provincial/federal laws (e.g., Trespass to Property Act, Criminal Code of Canada) with fairness and professionalism.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to security incidents, emergencies, and disturbances, including de-escalation of conflicts and managing challenging interactions.
  • Apprehend individuals in violation of laws or regulations, ensuring proper documentation and coordination with local law enforcement agencies.
  • Provide assistance and accurate information to passengers and staff, promoting a positive and secure transit experience for all.
  • Complete detailed and accurate reports on all incidents, observations, and enforcement actions taken, adhering to established protocols.
  • Operate and monitor CCTV systems, access control systems, and other security equipment as required to maintain comprehensive oversight.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal teams, emergency services, and external agencies to ensure integrated and responsive security operations.
  • Conduct fare inspections and issue citations for non-compliance, contributing to revenue protection.
  • Maintain a high level of situational awareness, proactively identifying potential threats or vulnerabilities within the transit environment and reporting them.

Required Skills

  • Valid Ontario Security Guard License (or ability to obtain prior to employment)
  • Valid G Class Driver’s License with a clean abstract and reliable transportation
  • Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification (Level C preferred)
  • Excellent observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills to assess situations quickly and accurately
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities, including report writing and clear articulation of instructions
  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a cohesive team
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution, de-escalation techniques, and crisis management
  • Demonstrated physical fitness to perform duties including prolonged standing, walking, patrolling, and potential physical interventions
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant provincial and federal legislation applicable to security and enforcement roles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (minimum 2 years) in transit security, law enforcement, municipal by-law enforcement, or a similar security environment.
  • Post-secondary education (diploma or degree) in Criminology, Law Enforcement, Security Management, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in additional languages relevant to Toronto's diverse population (e.g., French, Mandarin, Punjabi, Tagalog).
  • Specialized certifications such as Use of Force, baton, or handcuffing (an asset).
  • Experience with incident reporting software, two-way radio communication systems, and other security technologies.
