Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electronic transmission systems in various types of vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on transmissions to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and software to accurately identify system faults and inefficiencies.
  • Disassemble, inspect, repair, and reassemble transmission components, including gear sets, torque converters, valve bodies, and electronic control units.
  • Conduct thorough test drives and final inspections to verify successful repairs and adherence to performance specifications.
  • Document all maintenance and repair activities meticulously, including parts used, time spent, and issues resolved.
  • Stay current with industry advancements, new transmission technologies, and best practices through continuous learning and training.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior technicians, sharing knowledge and expertise.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient work area.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience as a Transmission Technician, with at least 2 years in a specialist or lead role.
  • In-depth knowledge of automatic, manual, and CVT transmissions, including diagnostic procedures and repair techniques.
  • Proficiency in using OEM and aftermarket diagnostic tools and software.
  • Strong understanding of electrical and hydraulic systems related to transmissions.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills with a meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members and provide technical explanations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Journeyperson certification as an Automotive Service Technician (310S) or Heavy Duty Equipment Technician (310T) in Ontario.
  • Specialized training or certifications from transmission manufacturers (e.g., ZF, Allison, Eaton, Aisin).
  • Experience with heavy-duty and commercial vehicle transmissions.
  • Proficiency in using shop management software and electronic parts catalogs.
  • Experience with advanced electronic control systems and CAN bus diagnostics.
