Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and meticulous Warehouse Receiving Associate for a full-time, night shift position to support the vital operations at the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton. This critical role involves overseeing the accurate and efficient receipt of all incoming shipments, which range from priceless artifacts and delicate exhibit components to essential operational supplies and merchandise. Working independently or as part of a small, focused team during off-peak hours, you will be instrumental in ensuring that all goods are correctly identified, documented, inspected for damage, and directed to their appropriate storage or staging areas.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of warehouse best practices, particularly in handling diverse and sensitive items, and will thrive in an environment that demands precision and attention to detail. This isn’t just a job about moving boxes; it’s about safeguarding history and facilitating the seamless flow of resources that enable the museum to educate, inspire, and preserve. You will be responsible for maintaining organized receiving areas, meticulously updating inventory records, and collaborating effectively with various internal departments to coordinate deliveries and ensure a smooth transition of items into the museum’s care. Your commitment to safety and efficiency, especially during the quiet hours of the night, will be key to your success and the museum’s continued operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive, unload, and inspect all incoming shipments, including museum artifacts, exhibit materials, retail merchandise, and general supplies, ensuring accuracy against purchase orders and manifests.
  • Carefully inspect items for damage or discrepancies, meticulously documenting any issues and reporting them promptly to supervisors.
  • Operate various warehouse equipment, such as pallet jacks, forklifts, and hand trucks, safely and efficiently (certification required for forklifts).
  • Accurately sort, label, and stage received goods for internal distribution or storage in designated areas.
  • Maintain precise inventory records through data entry into the museum's inventory management system.
  • Ensure the receiving dock and warehouse areas are clean, organized, and free of hazards at all times, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with internal departments (e.g., Collections, Exhibits, Retail) regarding incoming deliveries and any related issues.
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts and reconciliations as required.
  • Adhere to all museum policies, procedures, and security protocols, especially when handling sensitive or valuable items.
  • Work independently and proactively during the night shift, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills and initiative.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a warehouse, logistics, or receiving role.
  • Proven ability to operate a pallet jack and hand truck.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and inventory management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) regularly and perform physical tasks associated with warehouse work.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including data entry and familiarity with inventory management software.
  • Reliable and punctual, with the ability to work independently during night shifts.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.
