Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently collect various types of waste and recyclables from designated residential, commercial, and public areas.
- Operate compaction mechanisms, hoists, and other specialized equipment on waste collection vehicles.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any malfunctions or safety concerns.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and relevant environmental regulations.
- Navigate collection routes accurately and in a timely manner, adapting to changes as necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are ready for daily operations.
- Interact professionally and courteously with the public when necessary.
- Assist with manual loading and unloading of waste containers as required.
- Work effectively as part of a team, communicating clearly with supervisors and colleagues.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) repeatedly.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (rain, snow, heat, cold).
- Strong work ethic and reliability, particularly for early morning shifts.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety procedures.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
- Basic understanding of vehicle operations and maintenance checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Valid Class 3 or D driver’s license with air brake endorsement (or willingness to obtain).
- Previous experience in waste collection, general labour, or a similar physically demanding role.
- Knowledge of local waste management regulations and procedures.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
