As a Geological Technician, you will be instrumental in the collection, processing, and analysis of geological data. Your role will involve a blend of field work, laboratory tasks, and office-based data management. You’ll spend time in the field assisting with drilling supervision, soil and rock sampling, and monitoring groundwater conditions. In the lab, you will be responsible for sample preparation, performing basic soil and rock classification tests, and maintaining equipment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior geologists and engineers with field investigations, including drilling supervision, soil and rock core logging, and test pit excavations.
- Collect and label geological samples (soil, rock, water) accurately according to established protocols.
- Perform basic field tests, such as permeability tests and groundwater level measurements.
- Conduct laboratory tasks, including sample preparation, moisture content determination, and visual classification of soil and rock samples.
- Maintain and calibrate field and laboratory equipment, ensuring operational readiness and safety.
- Record, organize, and manage field and laboratory data using specified software and reporting formats.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations and company policies during all field and laboratory activities.
- Assist with the preparation of technical reports and data summaries under the supervision of senior staff.
- Communicate effectively with team members, contractors, and clients as required.
Required Skills
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Geological Technology, Earth Sciences, Geology, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of geological principles, soil mechanics, and rock mechanics.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Valid Ontario Class G driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
- Physical fitness and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience with geological field equipment (e.g., GPS, core logging tools).
