Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently operate specialized waste collection vehicles (e.g., refuse collection vehicles, skip loaders) on designated routes.
- Perform daily vehicle checks, including fluid levels, tyre pressure, and lights, ensuring compliance with road safety regulations.
- Collect and transport various types of waste and recycling materials from residential and commercial properties.
- Adhere strictly to scheduled routes and collection times, ensuring timely service delivery.
- Operate vehicle compaction equipment and lifting mechanisms safely and correctly.
- Maintain a clean and tidy vehicle cab, reporting any defects, breakdowns, or incidents promptly.
- Follow all company health and safety procedures, traffic laws, and environmental regulations.
- Interact professionally and courteously with the public and team members.
- Complete all necessary paperwork and digital records accurately and promptly (e.g., driver logs, route sheets).
- Assist loaders with waste collection tasks when required, demonstrating teamwork.
Required Skills
- Valid UK Class 2 (Category C) HGV driving license.
- Driver CPC qualification.
- Digital Tachograph card.
- Proven experience as an HGV driver, preferably in waste management or similar operations.
- Excellent knowledge of road safety regulations and traffic laws.
- Strong geographical knowledge of Liverpool and surrounding areas.
- Ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and operating vehicle equipment.
- Reliability and punctuality.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to health and safety procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating refuse collection vehicles or similar specialized vehicles.
- Experience working in a public-facing role.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for routine vehicle checks.
