Key Responsibilities
- Manage the entire lifecycle of physical and digital archival collections, including appraisal, acquisition, arrangement, description, and preservation.
- Develop and implement archival policies, procedures, and standards in alignment with industry best practices and organizational needs.
- Process and catalog diverse records using appropriate metadata standards (e.g., DACS, EAD), ensuring accurate and consistent descriptive control.
- Oversee the physical housing and environmental controls for archival materials to ensure their long-term preservation and security.
- Implement and manage digital preservation strategies and systems for born-digital and digitized assets.
- Provide reference and research services to internal and external stakeholders, assisting with information retrieval and historical inquiries.
- Conduct regular collection assessments to identify preservation needs, risks, and prioritize conservation efforts.
- Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure the integration of archival systems with broader information management infrastructures.
- Train and supervise junior staff, interns, or volunteers on archival procedures and best practices.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and methodologies in archival science and digital preservation.
Required Skills
- Master's degree in Archival Studies, Library Science (with an archival specialization), or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive professional experience in an archival setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in archival theory, principles, and best practices.
- Proficiency with archival content management systems (e.g., ArchivesSpace, AtoM) and metadata standards (e.g., DACS, MARC, EAD).
- Strong understanding of digital preservation concepts, tools, and workflows.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with diverse audiences.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with various record formats, including textual, photographic, audio-visual, and electronic records.
- Familiarity with database management and data migration processes.
- Project management experience within an archival or library context.
