Hiring.zycto is seeking a dedicated and proactive System Administrator to join our night shift team in Mount Dennis, Toronto. This critical role ensures the continuous, smooth operation of our IT infrastructure during non-business hours, providing essential support and maintenance that underpins our services. As a Night Shift System Administrator, you will be the backbone of our operational stability, responsible for monitoring system health, responding to alerts, performing routine maintenance, and swiftly resolving any emergent issues. Key Responsibilities
- Perform proactive monitoring of all IT infrastructure components, including servers, networks, and applications, during night shifts to identify and address potential issues before they impact services.
- Respond promptly to system alerts, alarms, and incidents, troubleshooting and resolving technical problems related to hardware, software, and network connectivity.
- Execute scheduled maintenance tasks, patching, upgrades, and backup operations during off-peak hours to minimize disruption to business operations.
- Provide first and second-level technical support for internal users and critical client systems, escalating complex issues to appropriate teams as necessary.
- Document all incidents, resolutions, and routine procedures meticulously, maintaining comprehensive records in accordance with company policies.
- Collaborate with day shift operations, network, and security teams to ensure smooth handovers, knowledge transfer, and consistent operational practices.
- Implement and verify security measures, ensuring system integrity and compliance with security policies during your shift.
- Participate in disaster recovery planning and testing, contributing to the robustness and resilience of our IT infrastructure.
- Manage user accounts, access controls, and resource allocations on various platforms.
- Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to system performance, security, and operational efficiency.
Required Skills
- Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience as a System Administrator or in a similar IT support role.
- Proficiency in administering Windows Server environments (2012 R2, 2016, 2019) and Linux operating systems (e.g., Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL).
- Strong understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, Firewalls) and troubleshooting network connectivity issues.
- Experience with virtualization technologies, particularly VMware vSphere and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG, SolarWinds).
- Solid scripting skills (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python) for automation and routine task management.
- Experience with backup and recovery strategies and tools.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and diagnostic abilities.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for technical documentation and team collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CompTIA Server+, MCSA, CCNA, ITIL Foundation).
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
- Knowledge of storage area networks (SAN) and network-attached storage (NAS).
- Prior experience working in a 24/7 operations environment or night shift role.
- Understanding of IT security best practices and incident response procedures.
