Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on marine engines (inboard and outboard), transmissions, and stern drives.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical systems, including wiring, navigation equipment, batteries, and charging systems.
- Conduct comprehensive repairs on hull, deck, and superstructure components, including fiberglass and gel coat restoration.
- Install, service, and repair marine plumbing systems, pumps, and sanitation units.
- Execute winterization and summerization procedures, ensuring vessels are prepared for seasonal changes.
- Maintain accurate records of all services performed, parts used, and time spent on each job.
- Utilize diagnostic software and specialized tools to identify and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues.
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and environmental regulations in all tasks.
- Provide exceptional customer service, communicating effectively regarding repair statuses and recommendations.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with marine technology and repair techniques.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a Marine Mechanic or similar role.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and in-depth knowledge of marine engine systems (e.g., Mercury, Yamaha, Volvo Penta, Crusader).
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing marine electrical and electronic systems.
- Familiarity with marine plumbing, hydraulics, and steering systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Valid G-class driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certification from ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) or equivalent.
- Manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Mercury Marine, Yamaha Outboard, Volvo Penta).
- Experience with fiberglass repair and gel coat application.
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- Familiarity with marine heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
