Job Description

As a Wildland Firefighter with Hiring.zycto, you will be on the front lines, playing a pivotal role in protecting the vital ecosystems and communities across Pontypridd, Cardiff, and the broader Welsh landscape. This isn’t just a job; it’s a calling to serve, a commitment to environmental preservation, and a testament to unwavering courage under pressure. We are seeking highly motivated, physically robust, and quick-thinking individuals ready to face challenging conditions, often in remote and rugged terrain ranging from dense forests and moorlands to urban-wildland interfaces. Your primary mission will involve direct fire suppression efforts, employing advanced tactics and equipment to contain and extinguish wildfires efficiently and safely. This includes using hand tools to create firelines, operating pumps and hoses, and assisting with controlled burns.

Beyond active fire combat, your responsibilities extend to crucial preventative measures. You will engage in fuel reduction activities, conduct controlled burns where appropriate, and maintain fire breaks to minimize future risks to both property and natural habitats. Operating and maintaining specialized firefighting apparatus, tools, and vehicles – from ATVs to off-road tankers – will be a daily expectation, ensuring all equipment is in peak operational condition for immediate deployment. You will be responsible for meticulous inventory checks and reporting any defects promptly. Training and continuous skill development are cornerstones of our operations; you will participate in rigorous drills, simulations, and educational programs to enhance your expertise in fire behaviour, incident command systems, wilderness survival techniques, and advanced first aid.

Collaboration is key in our profession. You will work as an integral part of a close-knit crew, relying on clear communication, mutual support, and disciplined execution of strategies under the direction of crew bosses and incident commanders. This role also involves extensive outdoor work in variable and often extreme weather conditions, requiring exceptional stamina, resilience, and an absolute commitment to safety protocols for yourself and your team. A significant aspect of the job involves community engagement, educating residents on fire safety practices, and participating in public awareness campaigns to foster a culture of preparedness. If you are passionate about safeguarding our natural heritage, possess an unyielding work ethic, and thrive in an environment where every day brings a new challenge and an opportunity to make a profound impact, then Hiring.zycto is where you belong. Join us and become a guardian of the wild, protecting the beauty and safety of Wales.
