Key Responsibilities

  • Lead guided dogsled tours safely and effectively through various terrains.
  • Provide engaging and informative commentary to guests about dogsledding, local environment, and dog welfare.
  • Harness, unharness, and care for sled dogs before, during, and after tours, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
  • Conduct pre-trip safety briefings and provide basic mushing instruction to guests.
  • Maintain and prepare dogsledding equipment, including sleds, harnesses, and lines.
  • Assist with daily kennel duties, including feeding, watering, cleaning, and general animal husbandry.
  • Monitor dog health and behavior, reporting any concerns to management.
  • Ensure all safety protocols and company policies are strictly adhered to.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, addressing guest inquiries and ensuring a memorable experience.
  • Work collaboratively with other guides and staff as part of a cohesive team.
  • Perform basic trail maintenance as needed.

Required Skills

  • Strong affinity for animals, particularly dogs, and a deep understanding of their care and welfare.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups of guests.
  • Ability to work effectively outdoors in challenging winter weather conditions for extended periods.
  • Physical stamina and strength to handle dogs, lift equipment, and maneuver sleds.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and quick decision-making in dynamic environments.
  • Patience, responsibility, and a positive attitude.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Valid G Class driver's license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in dogsledding, animal handling, or outdoor guiding.
  • Knowledge of local flora, fauna, and regional history.
  • Experience in customer service or hospitality roles.
  • Wilderness First Aid certification.
  • Mechanical aptitude for minor equipment repairs.
