Key Responsibilities

  • Greet and escort patients to examination rooms, ensuring a welcoming and comforting environment.
  • Perform preliminary patient work-ups, including taking patient history and documenting chief complaints.
  • Conduct basic diagnostic tests such as visual acuity, intraocular pressure measurements (tonometry), and auto-refraction, under supervision.
  • Prepare and sterilize examination rooms and ophthalmic instruments before and after each patient visit.
  • Assist ophthalmologists during patient examinations and minor in-office procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, ensuring all documentation is complete and up-to-date.
  • Educate patients on basic eye care, medication instructions, and follow-up appointments as directed by the ophthalmologist.
  • Manage patient flow efficiently to optimize clinic schedules.
  • Perform administrative duties such as scheduling appointments and managing patient inquiries.
  • Order and maintain clinic supplies, ensuring all necessary equipment is available.
  • Adhere strictly to all clinic policies, safety regulations, and patient confidentiality (HIPAA/PHIPA) guidelines.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with a compassionate and empathetic approach.
  • Strong willingness and ability to learn new medical terminology, procedures, and technologies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
