Job Description

Hiring.zycto is actively seeking dedicated and experienced Sports Referees to join our dynamic team in the bustling Fashion District of Toronto. This vital part-time role offers an exciting opportunity to immerse yourself in the local sports scene, uphold the highest standards of fair play, and contribute significantly to the positive experience of athletes across various leagues and events. As a Sports Referee, you will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth, safe, and equitable progression of games, making critical decisions in fast-paced environments, and maintaining the integrity of our sporting competitions. Key Responsibilities

  • Strictly enforce game rules and regulations across various sports (e.g., basketball, soccer, volleyball) to ensure fair competition.
  • Maintain control of the game flow, manage player conduct, and ensure the safety of all participants on the field/court.
  • Render impartial decisions promptly and accurately, clearly communicating calls to players, coaches, and staff.
  • Mediate and resolve conflicts or disputes between players, coaches, or teams in a professional and calm manner.
  • Complete and submit accurate game reports, including scores, incidents, and any disciplinary actions taken.
  • Attend pre-game briefings and post-game debriefs as required, actively contributing to a collaborative officiating team.
  • Inspect equipment and playing areas before games to ensure compliance with safety standards and league rules.
  • Serve as a positive role model for athletes, promoting sportsmanship and respect for the game and opponents.

Required Skills

  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of official rules and regulations for at least one major sport (e.g., basketball, soccer, volleyball).
  • Proven ability to make quick, accurate, and impartial decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with players, coaches, and spectators.
  • Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation abilities.
  • Exceptional observation skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to fairness, integrity, and sportsmanship.
  • Good physical condition, capable of keeping pace with game action and standing for extended periods.
  • Minimum of 2 years (24 months) of experience officiating organized sports at a competitive level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recognized certification from a relevant provincial or national sports officiating body.
  • Experience officiating multiple sports or a variety of age groups and skill levels.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Background in sports education or coaching.
