Job Description
Hiring.zycto is seeking dedicated and skilled individuals to join our team as Seasonal Ski Patrol Officers for the upcoming winter season in Keeshkeemaquah, Portage la Prairie. This is an incredible opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts with a strong commitment to safety and a passion for skiing or snowboarding. As a vital member of our operations, you will be on the front lines, ensuring the safety and well-being of all guests and staff across our designated patrol areas. Your primary role involves proactively monitoring slope conditions, identifying and mitigating potential hazards, and providing swift, professional emergency medical care and rescue services when required.
This role demands exceptional situational awareness, strong decision-making under pressure, and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse public. You will work closely with other patrol members, mountain operations staff, and management to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. Beyond emergency response, you’ll be a visible presence on the slopes, assisting guests with directions, answering questions, and enforcing safety rules to prevent accidents. Key Responsibilities
- Patrol designated ski and snowboard areas, monitoring conditions, and identifying potential hazards.
- Respond promptly and effectively to all accidents and emergencies on the mountain.
- Provide advanced first aid, trauma care, and patient transport using toboggans and other rescue equipment.
- Conduct daily opening and closing procedures, including safety netting, signage placement, and trail sweeps.
- Enforce mountain safety policies and procedures, educating guests on responsible skiing/snowboarding practices.
- Participate in lift evacuation training and procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, accidents, and daily activities.
- Collaborate with other departments, including lift operations, snowmaking, and guest services.
- Perform general maintenance tasks as needed, such as fence repair and equipment checks.
- Act as a professional and courteous representative of Hiring.zycto at all times.
Required Skills
- Advanced First Aid certification (e.g., OEC, EMT, Wilderness First Responder or equivalent).
- Expert-level skiing or snowboarding ability in all snow conditions and terrain.
- Minimum 1 year (12 months) of experience in ski patrol, outdoor emergency response, or similar field.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities under pressure.
- Physical fitness and ability to work long hours in varying weather conditions.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- NSP or CSP certification.
- Experience with toboggan handling and rope rescue techniques.
- Knowledge of local terrain and mountain environment in Manitoba.
- Previous experience working in a customer service role.
